He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them
[ Luke 2:51 ]
As a young boy, Jesus always obeyed His parents. The Bible says that He was subjected to them, which means He grew under His Parents Lordship. Jesus did this because God's law says, "Honor your Father and Mother, that your days may be long". Jesus always listened to His father's instructions and obeyed His mother's law as a teenager and as an young adult. He learned his skills as a carpenter from His earthly father Joseph. The commands and instructions of his parents were like ornaments to Him (proverbs1:9). God the Father wants children and youth to obey their parents. Jesus lived with His parents till he was thirty years old. From the Bible we can understand that His parents were God fearing people, so they taught Jesus God's law as a child. His parents were sensitive to God's spirit and angels. They raised Jesus in all the ways God commanded them. He loved His parents because the Bible says in John's gospel, He loved His own till the end. (john 13:1) . As the first born, He had the
responsibility to look after His Parents. Before His death, Jesus appoints His disciple John as His mother's caretaker in His place. Disobedience to parents is considered rebellion in God's eyes. You can see how much importance God gives to children's subjection to parental authority in the promise God gives to the house of the Rechabites
And Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: "Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts and done according to all that he commanded you, therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: "Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not lack a man to stand before Me forever.""'
(Jer 35:18-19)
Just because the house of Rechabites obeyed their father Jonadab, there is somebody from the house of Rechab ministering in God's presence even today. It is the Father God's desire to bless the family. He created the family even before the church. Mary and Joseph were stewards or
guardians over Jesus. Similarly your father and mother are God's guardian over your life. So the
fifth thing God the father, desires is that all children subject themselves to their Parents like Jesus.
